Costa Rica Santa Elena Estate
Nestled high in the mountains of Tarrazú, Costa Rica's most celebrated coffee-growing region, Santa Elena Estate is a farm where generations of knowledge and meticulous care come together in every harvest. Owned and operated by Luz Marina "Luzma" Trujillo, the estate is a reflection of her passion for producing exceptional coffee while honoring the rich agricultural traditions of her family and community.
Located in the district of Rosario, Santa Elena benefits from cool mountain temperatures, rich volcanic soils, and elevations reaching up to 1,650 meters above sea level. These ideal growing conditions allow the coffee cherries to mature slowly, developing the vibrant sweetness and complexity that Tarrazú coffees are known for around the world.
What makes this offering especially meaningful to us is the connection behind it. Luzma is a friend whose dedication to quality is evident from the moment you step onto her beautifully maintained farm. Every stage of production—from harvesting to processing—is handled with remarkable attention to detail. This lot showcases a blend of washed, honey (pulped natural), and natural processing methods, creating a cup that is both classic and layered with complexity.
In the cup, you'll find the crisp, clean brightness Costa Rica is famous for, balanced by a silky, lightly syrupy body and an elegant floral finish. Notes of grapefruit and plum lead into subtle herbaceous undertones, finishing with rich milk chocolate sweetness and delicate hints of jasmine that linger long after the last sip. It's an approachable yet memorable coffee that has quickly become a favorite around our cupping table—and we think it will become one of yours too.
