Java- West Java Bandung
This coffee comes from the volcanic highlands of Bandung Regency in West Java, one of Indonesia’s most historic and influential coffee-producing regions. Grown across smallholder farms in Pangalengan, Ciwidey, Lembang, and Garut, this Grade 1 Arabica reflects the depth, structure, and signature earthiness that have made Indonesian coffees so distinctive worldwide.
At elevations between 1,200 and 1,500 meters, cool mountain air and rich volcanic soils allow cherries to mature slowly, building complexity and a dense, syrupy sweetness in the cup. Farmers in the region practice careful selective picking, harvesting only ripe cherries to preserve clarity and consistency. The varietal mix — including Kartika, Lini S, Sigararutang, Ateng, Andungsari, and Komasti — is well adapted to these high-altitude environments and contributes to the coffee’s balanced, reliable profile.
Processing follows Indonesia’s traditional wet-hulled (Giling Basah) method, a hallmark of Sumatran and Javan coffees. After selective harvest, cherries are depulped with mucilage still intact, then partially dried before being hulled while still moist. This unique step, combined with final sun drying on patios, creates the coffee’s signature profile: full-bodied, earthy, and deeply layered, with a syrupy texture that sets it apart from fully washed coffees.
This lot is classified as Grade 1 Triple Picked (TP) — the highest export grade in Indonesia — meaning it has undergone multiple rounds of rigorous hand sorting to remove defects and ensure uniformity and quality consistency.
In the cup, expect a heavy, comforting body with notes of dark chocolate, cedar, molasses, and subtle herbal earth tones, supported by low acidity and a long, lingering finish. It’s a classic wet-hulled Java: grounding, structured, and unmistakably Indonesian.
